Prabhas Early Life, Family and Education
Prabhas was born on 23 October 1979 in Madras (now Chennai). His family comes from Mogalthur, near Bhimavaram in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. His father, U. Surya Narayana Raju, was a film producer, and his uncle was the veteran actor and former Union Minister Krishnam Raju, known as the original “Rebel Star.” Prabhas is the youngest of three children, with an elder brother, Prabodh, and an elder sister, Pragathi.

He studied at Don Bosco Matriculation School in Chennai and DNR High School in Bhimavaram, then completed his intermediate education at Nalanda College in Hyderabad. Before his debut, he trained in acting at the Satyanand Film Institute in Visakhapatnam. Growing up in a film family, with his father producing films and his uncle Krishnam Raju a major Telugu star since the 1970s, he was familiar with film sets from a young age.
Prabhas Career
Debut and rise in Telugu cinema (2002–2014)
Prabhas made his debut with Jayanth C. Paranjee’s Eeswar (2002). His first major success was the romantic action film Varsham (2004), followed by S. S. Rajamouli’s Chatrapathi (2005), his first collaboration with the director. He built a strong fan base with Bujjigadu (2008), the family entertainer Darling (2010) and Mr. Perfect (2011).
Koratala Siva’s action drama Mirchi (2013) was one of the biggest Telugu hits of its year and won him the Nandi Award for Best Actor.
Baahubali and pan-India stardom (2015–2017)
Prabhas spent about five years on Rajamouli’s two-part epic, playing both Amarendra Baahubali and his son Mahendra Baahubali. Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) became a nationwide phenomenon, and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) grossed over ₹1,800 crore worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film at the time. The films made Prabhas the first South Indian actor to be honoured with a wax statue at Madame Tussauds, unveiled in Bangkok in 2017.
Big-budget experiments (2019–2023)
After Baahubali, Prabhas focused on large-scale pan-India releases. The action thriller Saaho (2019) did well in Hindi markets despite mixed reviews. The period romance Radhe Shyam (2022) and the mythological drama Adipurush (2023), in which he played Raghava (Lord Ram), were box-office disappointments.
He bounced back with Prashanth Neel’s action drama Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire (2023), which grossed over ₹700 crore worldwide.
Kalki 2898 AD and recent work (2024–2026)
Nag Ashwin’s science-fiction epic Kalki 2898 AD (2024), co-starring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone, grossed more than ₹1,100 crore. It made Prabhas the first Indian actor with two films above the ₹1,000-crore mark. In 2025 he made an extended cameo as Rudra in Kannappa, and the combined re-release Baahubali: The Epic reached theatres on 31 October 2025.
His 2026 Sankranti release, the horror comedy The RajaSaab, did not meet expectations. His slate ahead is the busiest of his career: Fauji (3 December 2026), Spirit with Sandeep Reddy Vanga (5 March 2027), Kalki 2898 AD Part 2, which began filming in February 2026, and Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam.

Prabhas Marriage and Personal Life

Questions about his marriage come up at almost every film event, and his long friendship with Baahubali co-star Anushka Shetty has fuelled rumours for years; both have repeatedly said they are only friends. He lost his father in 2010 and his uncle Krishnam Raju, who was a mentor figure, in September 2022.
Known for his low-key lifestyle, he rarely gives interviews and is not very active on social media. Colleagues often mention his hospitality, especially the home-cooked meals he sends to co-stars on set.
Prabhas Upcoming Movies Explained
Prabhas has one of the biggest film slates in Indian cinema, with five major projects in various stages of production.
- Fauji (3 December 2026): A period war drama set in the 1940s, directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, known for Sita Ramam. It is Prabhas’s first film with the director and his first period war story.
- Spirit (5 March 2027): A cop drama directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga (Arjun Reddy, Animal). Principal photography began in late November 2025 and continued in 2026. Reports describe it as an intense, violent cop story in Vanga’s signature style.
- Kalki 2898 AD Part 2: Nag Ashwin’s sequel, in which Prabhas returns as Bhairava and Karna. Filming began in February 2026 with Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan.
- Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam: Prashanth Neel’s continuation of the 2023 hit. Early production resumed in March 2026, but no release date has been fixed.
- Hombale Films deal: Prabhas signed a three-film agreement with Hombale Films, the producers of Salaar, with the two further films tentatively planned for 2027 and 2028.
