His older sister, Athiya Shetty, is an actress who married Indian cricketer KL Rahul in 2023, making Rahul his brother-in-law. Growing up as the son of an action star, Ahan has spoken about the pressure of comparisons with his father, a theme that came full circle when he starred in the sequel to his father’s best-known war film.
Ahan Shetty Career
Debut: Tadap (2021)
Ahan was launched by producer Sajid Nadiadwala in Tadap, directed by Milan Luthria and released in December 2021. A Hindi remake of the Telugu hit RX 100, it starred him as Ishana, a volatile young man in love, opposite Tara Sutaria. The film had mixed reviews and earned about ₹35 crore, but Ahan’s performance was praised: the Hindustan Times called it an intense and impressive debut and Filmfare a confident one. He won the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Male in 2022.
A Long Wait (2022–2025)
In March 2024, Nadiadwala announced a second film with Ahan, Sanki, opposite Pooja Hegde, for Valentine’s Day 2025, but that version did not go ahead. In October 2024 Sunny Deol announced Ahan as part of Border 2, and he spent much of 2025 shooting the war drama, including military-style training at real defence locations.
Border 2 (2026)
Border 2, directed by Anurag Singh and produced by T-Series and J. P. Dutta’s banner, is set during the India–Pakistan war of 1971 and follows several real operations. Ahan plays Lieutenant Commander Mahendra Singh Rawat of the Navy’s 14th Frigate Squadron, a character based on Captain Mahendra Nath Mulla, the INS Khukri commander awarded the Maha Vir Chakra. Anya Singh plays his wife. Starring Sunny Deol with Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh, the film released on 23 January 2026, earned more than ₹300 crore nett in India and over ₹400 crore worldwide, and became the biggest hit of Ahan’s career. Some critics felt he made a sincere effort but was overshadowed by the bigger names. Like Agastya Nanda, who played 1971 war hero Arun Khetarpal in Ikkis, Ahan took on a real-life war hero early in his career.
Sanki and 1920 Cold Winter (2026–2027)
Ahan’s next film is Sanki, a new action drama directed by Tinu Suresh Desai that began filming in Bhopal on 30 October 2026, with a release planned for the first half of 2027. After that he is set to star in Vikram Bhatt’s 1920 Cold Winter, a new entry in the 1920 horror series.
