Allu Arjun Career
Debut and the “Stylish Star” years (2003–2013)
Allu Arjun made his debut as a lead actor in K. Raghavendra Rao’s Gangotri (2003). His breakthrough came a year later with Sukumar’s Arya (2004), a romantic drama that made him a youth favourite and began his long partnership with the director. Films such as Bunny (2005), Happy (2006) and Desamuduru (2007) built his image as an energetic dancer and a style icon, earning him the “Stylish Star” tag.
He won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu for Parugu (2008) and again for Krish’s anthology drama Vedam (2010). Arya 2 (2009), Julayi (2012) and Iddarammayilatho (2013) kept him among Telugu cinema’s leading stars.
Commercial peak (2014–2020)
Surender Reddy’s action comedy Race Gurram (2014) became one of his biggest hits and won him another Filmfare Best Actor award. He played Gona Ganna Reddy in the historical drama Rudhramadevi (2015), winning the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor – Telugu, and followed it with S/O Satyamurthy (2015), Sarrainodu (2016) and DJ: Duvvada Jagannadham (2017). Trivikram Srinivas’s family entertainer Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020) became a major blockbuster, and its songs were among the most-streamed Telugu tracks of the year.
Pushpa and national stardom (2021–2024)
In Pushpa: The Rise (2021), Allu Arjun reunited with Sukumar to play Pushpa Raj, a labourer who rises in the red sandalwood smuggling trade. The film was a hit across India, especially in its Hindi-dubbed version, and its dialogues and dance moves went viral. The role won him the National Film Award for Best Actor, a first for a Telugu actor, and another Filmfare Award.

The sequel, Pushpa 2: The Rule, released on 5 December 2024 and grossed more than ₹1,500 crore worldwide, placing it among the highest-grossing Indian films ever. The release was overshadowed by a stampede at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad on 4 December 2024, in which a woman died and her son was critically injured. Allu Arjun was named in the police case and was arrested on 13 December 2024; the Telangana High Court granted him interim bail the same day.
Raaka with Atlee (2025–present)
After Pushpa 2, Allu Arjun signed his first film with Tamil director Atlee, produced by Sun Pictures. Announced as AA22xA6, it was titled Raaka on 8 April 2026, his 44th birthday. Deepika Padukone plays the female lead, and Mrunal Thakur, Rashmika Mandanna and Janhvi Kapoor are reported to have key roles. With a reported budget above ₹700 crore, it is one of the most expensive Indian films in production, and reports point to a December 2027 release.

Allu Arjun’s Dance, Style and Pan-India Appeal
Long before Pushpa, Allu Arjun was known as one of the best dancers in Indian cinema. Songs such as “Ringa Ringa” from Arya 2, “Seeti Maar” from DJ and “Butta Bomma” from Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo became huge hits, and “Butta Bomma” was among the most-viewed Telugu songs on YouTube. His sharp hairstyles and fashion choices in the 2000s earned him the “Stylish Star” title from fans and the press.
His audience outside the Telugu states grew steadily through Hindi-dubbed versions of his films, which played widely on television and YouTube for years before Pushpa. He also has a large following in Kerala, where his dubbed Malayalam releases have done well since the mid-2000s. When Pushpa: The Rise released in 2021, that groundwork paid off: Pushpa Raj’s shoulder-raised walk, the beard-stroke gesture and the line “Thaggedhe Le” were copied by cricketers, politicians and fans across India.
With Pushpa 2, he moved firmly into the pan-India league, with the Hindi version alone outperforming many Bollywood releases. Raaka, made on a far larger scale with a Bollywood co-star and a Tamil director, is designed to build on that national reach.
