Early Life
Katrina was born Katrina Rosemary Turcotte on 16 July 1983 in Hong Kong. Her mother, Suzanne, is an English lawyer and charity worker, and her father, Mohammad Kaif, is a businessman. Her parents separated when she was young, and she was raised by her mother along with her seven siblings: three older sisters, one older brother and three younger sisters.
Because of her mother’s charity work, the family moved often. Katrina spent her childhood in China, Japan, France, Switzerland, Poland, Belgium and Hawaii, among other places, and was home-schooled by a series of tutors. The family later settled in London for three years. At 14, she won a beauty contest in Hawaii, which led to her first modelling job for a jewellery campaign.
Career
Modelling and Debut (2003–2004)
Katrina modelled in London, including at London Fashion Week, where she was spotted by filmmaker Kaizad Gustad, who cast her in Boom (2003). The film failed, but she stayed in India, walked for designer Rohit Bal, appeared in the first Kingfisher Calendar and signed endorsements with brands such as Coca-Cola, LG and Samsung. In 2004 she played the title role in the Telugu film Malliswari opposite Venkatesh, which was a commercial success and earned her a Filmfare nomination.
