Dabangg and Commercial Success (2010–2012)
Sonakshi was cast in Abhinav Kashyap’s action comedy Dabangg (2010), produced by Arbaaz Khan, in which she played Rajjo Pandey opposite Salman Khan. The film was a blockbuster and won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut, along with IIFA and other honours. In 2012, she had three major hits: Prabhu Deva’s Rowdy Rathore with Akshay Kumar, Son of Sardaar with Ajay Devgn and Dabangg 2.
Lootera and Varied Roles (2013–2018)
Vikramaditya Motwane’s period romance Lootera (2013), opposite Ranveer Singh, showed a quieter side of her and earned her a Filmfare Best Actress nomination. She followed it with A. R. Murugadoss’s Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014) and led the action film Akira (2016), in which she played a woman trained in martial arts, as well as Force 2 (2016).
Mission Mangal and Dabangg 3 (2019–2022)
In 2019, she was part of the ensemble in the space drama Mission Mangal, about India’s Mars mission, one of the year’s hits, and returned as Rajjo in Dabangg 3. She also appeared in the period drama Kalank (2019).
Dahaad, Heeramandi and Streaming Success (2023–2026)
Sonakshi made her streaming debut as police officer Anjali Bhaati in Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar’s crime series Dahaad (2023), which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival. Her performance won her the Filmfare OTT Award for Best Actress (Critics) in a drama series. Why Dahaad Was a Turning Point

Playing a small-town police officer investigating a series of deaths of women in Rajasthan gave her a grounded, dialogue-driven role, and it brought her some of the strongest reviews of her career, along with a Filmfare OTT award. Its success opened the door to Heeramandi, Nikita Roy and System, all of which place her at the centre of the story.
